A Beginner’s Guide to Using Bluetooth on iPhone

Updated On March 14, 2023 by Kevin Hollington

Bluetooth technology has revolutionized the way we connect and communicate with other devices wirelessly. With its seamless integration into modern smartphones like the iPhone, Bluetooth is now a must-have feature for many users. Whether you want to connect to a wireless speaker, transfer files, or make hands-free calls, Bluetooth is the go-to technology. In this article, we’ll explain how to use Bluetooth on your iPhone.

Turning on Bluetooth

The first step in using Bluetooth on your iPhone is to turn it on. To do this, go to your iPhone’s settings app and tap on ”Bluetooth.” Toggle the switch to the right to turn it on. Once it’s turned on, your iPhone will start searching for nearby Bluetooth devices.

Pairing Devices

Before you can use Bluetooth to connect to another device, you need to pair the two devices. This process is straightforward, and it involves making sure that both devices are in pairing mode and visible to each other.

To pair your iPhone with another Bluetooth device, navigate to the ”Bluetooth” settings in your iPhone’s settings app. Once there, tap on the name of the device you want to connect to, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.

Some Bluetooth devices may require a passcode or PIN to be entered during the pairing process. You can find this information in the device’s manual or on the device itself.

Managing Bluetooth Devices

Once you’ve paired your iPhone with a Bluetooth device, you can manage it by going to Settings > Bluetooth. Here, you can see all the devices you’ve paired with and choose which ones to connect to.

Disconnecting Bluetooth Devices

If you want to disconnect a Bluetooth device from your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap on the device you want to disconnect. Then, tap on the ”Forget This Device” button. This will remove the device from the list of paired devices on your iPhone.

Using Bluetooth for Audio

One of the most popular uses of Bluetooth on the iPhone is for audio playback. With Bluetooth headphones or speakers, you can listen to your favorite music, podcasts, and audiobooks without the need for cords and cables.

To use Bluetooth for audio, make sure your headphones or speaker are turned on and in pairing mode. Then, go to your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings and select the device from the list of paired devices. Once connected, you can start playing audio on your iPhone, and it will automatically stream to the connected device.

Using Bluetooth for Calls

Bluetooth can also be used for making and receiving calls on your iPhone. This feature is especially useful when you’re driving or doing other activities that require your hands to be free.

To use Bluetooth for calls, pair your iPhone with a compatible Bluetooth headset or car stereo. Once paired, all incoming calls will automatically route to the Bluetooth device. You can also initiate calls using Siri or the dial pad on your phone, and they will be routed to the Bluetooth device.

Using AirPlay with Bluetooth

Another useful feature that works with Bluetooth on iPhone is AirPlay. AirPlay allows you to wirelessly stream audio and video from your iPhone to other devices such as Apple TV, AirPlay-enabled speakers, and more. You can use Bluetooth to connect your iPhone to AirPlay-enabled speakers or receivers, which can then be used to stream audio wirelessly from your iPhone. If you have an iPhone X or newer, swipe down from top right of your screen to bring up Control Center. If you have an iPhone 8 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Control Center, and then tap on the audio output button. Select the AirPlay-enabled device you want to use, and your audio will start streaming wirelessly.

Troubleshooting Bluetooth Issues

If you’re having trouble connecting to a Bluetooth device or experiencing other issues, there are a few things you can try. First, make sure the device is in pairing mode and within range of your iPhone. You should also try restarting both your iPhone and the Bluetooth device. If you’re still having trouble, try resetting your iPhone’s network settings by going to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Conclusion

Bluetooth technology has made it easy to connect and communicate wirelessly with other devices. With its many uses, including audio playback and hands-free calling, it’s an essential feature for any iPhone user. By following the simple steps outlined in this guide, you’ll be able to use Bluetooth on your iPhone with ease.
