You can use the Stocks app on your iPhone to track market activity and view the performance of stocks you follow. In this article I’ll show you what to do when iPhone Stocks app is not working after iOS 17 update so you can fix the problem for good!

Without further ado, let’s get started.

8 Ways to Fix Stocks App Not Working on iPhone in iOS 17

1. Close And Reopen The Stocks App

If the Stocks app experienced a technical glitch while you were using it, the app may start to freeze or stop loading properly. By closing and reopening the Stocks app, we can give it a second chance to work properly.

To close the Stocks app on an iPhone with Home button, double-click the Home button to bring up the app switcher. Then, swipe Stocks up and off the screen to close it.

If your iPhone doesn’t have a Home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to the center of the screen. Hold your finger in the center of the screen until the app switcher opens. Swipe Stocks up and off the top of the screen to close it.

2. Check to See if the Stocks Service is Online

To keep the Stocks app with up-to-date information, Apple relies on an online service. It has a very high uptime, but it’s always possible that the service is temporarily offline. If Apple Stocks is facing an outage, you can’t do anything but wait until Apple resolves the issue. Head over to Apple’s system status page and make sure that the circle to the left of Stocks is green. If the circle is red or orange, take a break and try using the Stocks app after some time.

3. Restart Your iPhone

Just like closing and reopening the app, it’s a good idea to shut your iPhone down and back on. Restarting your iPhone can fix minor software glitches, as all of its active programs get a chance to shut down and reboot naturally.

If your iPhone has a Home button: Press and hold the power button until you see slide to power off show up on the screen. Drag the power icon from left to right. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the power button again to boot up your iPhone.

If your iPhone doesn’t have a Home button: press and hold the side button and either volume button at the same time until you see slide to power off words on the screen. Drag the power icon from left to right. Press and hold the side button again to restart your iPhone.

4. Check Your Internet Connection

To use the Stocks app on your iPhone, you must be connected to the internet. It’s possible that Stocks is not working on your iPhone because of a poor Wi-Fi or cellular connection. Otherwise, when you try to load the Stocks App, it will return an error that says “Stocks Unavailable-Stocks isn’t connected to the internet. Go online to get started.”

If you are using Stocks over Wi-Fi, try turning Wi-Fi off and back on. Like closing and reopening an app, this gives your iPhone a second chance to make a clean connection to your local Wi-Fi network.

Start the Settings app and tap Wi-Fi. Turn off the switch next to Wi-Fi at the top of the screen. Wait a few seconds, then tap the switch to turn Wi-Fi on again.

If that doesn’t do the trick, try forgetting your Wi-Fi network on your iPhone. The first time your iPhone connects to a Wi-Fi network, it saves information on how to connect to that particular network. If the connection process gets changed in any way, your iPhone may fail to connect to the network.

To forget a Wi-Fi network, head over to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the more information button (look for the blue i) to the right of the network you want your iPhone to forget. Then tap Forget This Network at the top of the menu.

After forgetting the network, rejoin it by tapping on it under Choose A Network… in Settings > Wi-Fi. You’ll be prompted to reenter the network password if necessary. Check out our other article for more Wi-Fi troubleshooting tips on iPhone!

If you are using Cellular Data, make sure the Stocks app can use Mobile Data. Go to Settings > Cellular and turn on the switch next to Cellular Data at the top of screen. You’ll know Cellular Data in on when the switch is green.

If Cellular Data is already on, try toggling the switch off and back on. This will give Cellular Data a fresh start, just in case it’s not working because of a minor software glitch.

Next, scroll down to Cellular Data Section and make sure that the toggle next to Stocks is turned on. If you are facing problem with mobile data, tap or click here to learn how to fix cellular data issues on iPhone.

5. Check For iOS Update

If your iPhone is running an outdated version of iOS, you may experience technical issues that are addressed and fixed by the pending update. Apple periodically release updates to fix security and software issues as well as introduce new features.

Go ahead and check for an iOS update by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, tap Download and Install or Install Now. If no update is available, your iPhone will say, “Your software is up to date.”

6. Delete And Reinstall Stocks App

If Stocks is not working on your iPhone, deleting and reinstalling the app will give your phone the chance to download the app again as if it were new. If a file from the Stocks app has become corrupted on your iPhone, this is an easy way to remove it and start over.

Press and hold the Stocks app icon until the menu appears. Hit Remove App > Delete App > Delete to uninstall Stocks on your iPhone.

Now that Stocks has been deleted, launch the App Store and tap on the Search tab at the bottom of the screen. Type in Stocks into the search box. Finally, tap the cloud button to the right of Stocks to reinstall it on your iPhone.

7. Reset Network Settings

Should the problem persist, try resetting the network settings. If Stocks app is not working on your iPhone due to a glitch in network connection, resetting the network settings can get rid of it.

Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings and then confirm the action.
