With iOS 14, Apple introduced a feature to change the default browser app which is safari and to change the default mail app which is Apple’s mail app. This feature allows users to use other third-party browser apps like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and third-party mail apps like Gmail, Outlook or Spark, etc.
In iOS 12, Apple introduced a feature which allows you to delete default applications from iPhone and iPad. But for browser and mail apps, Apple forced its users to use the default apps. With iOS 14, apple removed the restriction of using default applications on iOS.

Giving this option to change default apps like mail and safari is not because they are not good to use, actually they are perfect for those who love to live inside the Apple Eco System. But there are so many other people who prefer to use other apps. For example, most people prefer to use Google Chrome to browse the internet and for mailing app, most people prefer to use Gmail. If you happen to have a Windows laptop or Android tablet then there is no way to enjoy the same email experience or sync browsing history on those devices if you use Safari on your iPhone. The good news is that, with iOS 14, the Cupertino based brand introduced a feature which allows users to change the default apps. How to change your Default Mails and Browser app in iOS 14

While writing this article, not all the apps are updated to iOS 14 so I will show you how to change your default Safari browser to Google Chrome. Because Chrome is the only browser updated for this feature.

  1. Start the Settings App on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down until you see the Application section and select Chrome.
  3. You will find a new option “Default Browser App”. tap on it
  4. Select Chrome instead of Safari.

From now on whenever you click on any link from any other app. Your iPhone will automatically open that link on Google Chrome. The best part is if you are searching for something on the spotlight search, it will give you the option to open on your selected browser.
