Is your iPhone’s Calculator app not working after iOS 18 update?
In the Calculator app on iPhone, you can perform basic arithmetic calculations with the standard calculator. Or use the scientific calculator for exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions.
In iOS 18, the Calculator app stores history, so you are able to see all of your prior calculations. In addition to the Basic and Scientific sections, Apple added a Math Notes section to the Calculator app that ties in with the Notes app for solving equations in a note.
iOS 18 also introduced new convert option in Calculator app. If you type in 10, for example, and then hit the calculator icon and then convert, you can choose from all kinds of conversion options.
Currency, area, data, energy, force, length, power, pressure, temperature, time, volume, and weight are just some of the inputs you can choose.
Unfortunately, i’ve noticed that sometimes the Calculator app crashes or doesn’t work at all.
You’d be glad to know that resolving iOS 18 Calculator app problems is quite easy. So, let’s dive into it.
How to Fix iPhone Calculator App Not Working After iOS 18 Update
1. Close Calculator On Your iPhone
The first solution to try when Calculator is not working after iOS 18 update is to close and reopen the app. This will give the calculator app a fresh start, which is sometimes enough to fix a minor crash or software bug.
First, bring up the app switcher on your iPhone. If your iPhone has Face ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to the center of the screen. Hold your finger in the center of the screen until the app switcher shows up. If your iPhone doesn’t have Face ID, double-press the Home button to open the app switcher.
Next, swipe Calculator up and off the top of the screen. You’ll know Calculator is closed when it no longer appears in the app switcher.
Reopen Calculator to see if it’s working again. If it isn’t, keep reading!
2. Restart Your iPhone
If you’ve tried closing and reopening the Calculator app but it’s still not working, it’s time to restart your iPhone. This can sometimes fix minor software glitches causing Calculator not to work on your iPhone.
To restart an iPhone SE (2nd generation) or newer model, press and hold the power button until the words “slide to power off” appear on the screen. Swipe the slider from left to right to shut down your iPhone. Wait about 20 seconds, then press and hold the power button again until you see the Apple logo flash onto the screen. Your iPhone will turn back on shortly after.
To restart an iPhone XR or newer, press and hold either volume button and the Side button until the “slide to power off” slider shows up on the screen. Then, swipe the power icon from left to right. After about 20 seconds, press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears on the center of the screen.
3. Scientific Calculator Not Working After iOS 18 Update?
To use the scientific calculator on your iOS 18 device, just rotate your phone to landscape orientation.
If you rotate your screen and the scientific calculator doesn’t appear, your iPhone is locked in Portrait mode.
If you have an iPhone SE (2nd generation) or newer model, swipe up from below the bottom of the display to reveal Control Center. If you have an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the upper right-hand corner of the display to reveal Control Center. Now, press the red lock button to enable screen rotation.
4. Update Your iPhone to the latest iOS 18 version
If your iPhone Calculator is still not working, the next thing you can try is updating your device to the latest version of iOS 18. Since Calculator is a native app, bugs and other technical issues within the Calculator app can usually be fixed by simply updating the iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
To update iOS, go to Settings and select General. Tap Software Update and check to see if there are any iOS updates available. If so, Download & Install the update and then try using the Calculator app again.
If you’re already on the latest iOS 18 version and Calculator is still not working on your iPhone, move on to the next solution.
5. Reset All iPhone Settings
At this point, the iPhone calculator should be up and running. But if it still won’t work, then you might consider resetting your device. When you do this, iPhone Settings will be restored to their factory defaults but your files and data will be kept safe.
To reset all settings on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer Or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings, enter your passcode, and tap Reset All Settings.
6. Reinstall Calculator
If all the solutions listed above haven’t fixed your iOS 18 Calculator issues, you may have to reinstall the app as a last resort. Reinstalling fixes all temporary glitches, replaces corrupted files from the previous installation, and installs the most updated version.
Press and hold on the Calculator app icon until the menu opens. Tap Remove App > Delete App > Delete to uninstall Calculator on your iPhone.
To reinstall Calculator, go to the App Store and tap on the Search tab located at the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Then, type “Calculator” into the search box and tap Search.
The Calculator app should be the top result. Tap the button to the right of Calculator to reinstall it on your iPhone. Since the Calculator app was previously installed on your iPhone, the reinstall button will look like a cloud with an arrow pointing down.
