The iTunes Store is the only way to safely buy and download your favorite songs, TV shows, movies, and podcasts on your iPhone. But what if you can’t connect to the iTunes Store on an iPhone running iOS 17? There could be several reasons why you’re having this issue, and we will run down some possible solutions to the problem here.

11 Ways to Fix iTunes Store Not Working on iPhone in iOS 17

1. Is iTunes Store Down?

iTunes Store not working on iPhone after iOS 17 updatecould be due to many issues, but let’s start with the one that might save you hours of troubleshooting. While not all that common, iTunes Store isn’t exempt from outages. There is a chance iTunes is down, and checking the service’s status is simple.

Head over to Apple’s system status page and make sure that the dot next to iTunes Store is green. If the dot is red or orange, take a break and try using the iTunes Store after some time.

2. Clear the iTunes Store Data

If iTunes is up, then try clearing the iTunes Store data files. Like regular computers, installed apps on a phone start to accumulate junk over time, and you can delete these. There’s no guarantee it will solve your iTunes Store problems on your iPhone, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

To clear the iTunes Store data on your iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and you will see thumbnail previews of all your open apps. Swipe up the iTunes Store app card to close it and this will also purge its cache.

Now when you reopen the iTunes Store, it will reopen from scratch. It will also restart any downloads that may have got stuck when you lost your connection to the store.

3. Turn Your iPhone Off And Back On

Restarting the iPhone is one of the most popular troubleshooting methods around. I always recommend it to friends and family whenever they come with tech problems. It turns out a simple restart seems to fix most smartphone issues, so give it a try if iTunes Store is not working on your iPhone! To restart your iPhone, press and hold the power button (known as the Sleep / wake button) until “slide to power off” appears on the screen. If you have an iPhone with Face ID, press and hold the side button and either volume button until “slide to power off” shows up on the screen.

Swipe the circle with the power icon across the screen to turn off your iPhone. Your iPhone can take up to 30 seconds to fully shut down.

To turn your iPhone back on, press and hold the power or side button until the Apple logo shows up on the screen. Open the iTunes Store again to see if it’s working.

4. Check Your Date & Time Settings

If your iPhone Date & Time Settings aren’t set up correctly, it can cause all sorts of problems on your iPhone — including this one! Settings correct date and time can get rid of minor problems. Try this if you’re having issues with iTunes Store not working on iPhone.

Open Settings app on your iPhone and tap General. Then, tap Date & Time and make sure the switch next to set Automatically is turned on.

5. Turn off VPN

Are you using a virtual private network, or VPN, on your iPhone while trying to open the iTunes Store? Some VPNs may not allow you to access iTunes Store on your iPhone. Or, a free VPN may offer terrible speed.

When a VPN is active, you should see the words VPN in the iPhone status bar. With most VPNs (paid or free), you can access the iTunes Store on your iPhone. But in case it repeatedly shows an error and doesn’t let you explore, open the Settings app on your iPhone and toggle off the switch next to VPN. Alternatively, open your VPN app and turn off the connection.

6. Check your internet connection

Internet problems are a common reason for iTunes Store not working on iPhone.

You should check if your internet is working, overall. Test other apps that require the internet to work and see if they’re operating correctly. You can also do something as simple as doing a Google search. You can also check if another device in the same network is operational. If iTunes Store isn’t the only thing having problems, then you could be running into internet problems.

If you are trying to use iTunes Store over Wi-Fi, try turning Wi-Fi off and back on. Like closing and reopening an app, this gives your iPhone a second chance to make a clean connection to your local Wi-Fi network.

Start the Settings app and tap Wi-Fi. Turn off the switch next to Wi-Fi at the top of the screen. Wait a few seconds, then tap the switch to turn Wi-Fi on again.

If that doesn’t do the trick, try restarting the router. There’s usually a dedicated button for this, but you can also unplug the device and plug it back in.

If restarting the router didn’t work, go ahead and forget your Wi-Fi network. This will allow your iPhone to establish a completely new connection with the network.

Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap Wi-Fi. Tap on the blue “i” information icon to the right of your Wi-Fi network, then tap Forget This Network. Tap Forget to confirm your decision.

Go back to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap on your network under Other Networks. Reenter your Wi-Fi password to reconnect to the network. Check out our other article for more Wi-Fi troubleshooting tips on iPhone!

If you are using Cellular Data, make sure the iTunes Store app can use Mobile Data. Go to Settings > Cellular and turn on the switch next to Cellular Data at the top of screen. You’ll know Cellular Data in on when the switch is green.

If Cellular Data is already on, try toggling the switch off and back on. This will give Cellular Data a fresh start, just in case it’s not working because of a minor software glitch.

Next, scroll down to Cellular Data Section and make sure that the toggle next to iTunes Store is turned on. If you are facing problem with mobile data, tap or click here to learn how to fix cellular data issues on iPhone.

7. Update Your Apple ID Details

You need a valid payment information and contact details linked to your Apple ID account to purchase anything from iTunes Store. It’s possible that the payment details on your account expired, so you should check if you need to update them.

You can update your Apple ID details from the iPhone Settings app:

Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap [Your Name] at the top of the screen. Tap Payment & Shipping to view your payment information. Lastly, tap Add Payment Method to add a payment method, or use Edit to edit your existing methods.

8. Sign Out Of The iTunes And Back In

Sometimes, problems loading the iTunes Store can be solved by signing out and back in with your Apple ID. You may be wondering how you can sign out of the iTunes Store without being able to get into the iTunes Store, but it’s easy — just follow these simple steps:

Open the Settings app and tap your name or image at the top of the menu. On the next page, scroll down and tap ”Sign Out,” then enter your Apple ID password to confirm.

Sign back in, and see if iTunes Store is now working.

9. Reset Network Settings

If the iTunes Store still isn’t working on your iPhone, it’s time to Reset Network Settings. Reset Network Settings “forgets” all the Wi-Fi networks you’ve ever connected to, so don’t forget to reconnect to your home Wi-Fi network in Settings > Wi-Fi after your iPhone reboots. This reset also restores all Cellular, APN, and VPN settings to factory defaults. Reset Network Settings isn’t a magic bullet, but it can fix a lot of internet connectivity problems on iPhones.

To Reset Network Settings on your iPhone, open the Settings app and go to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Enter your iPhone passcode, then tap Reset Network Settings again to confirm the reset.

10. Reset All Settings

Finally, if nothing helps, reset all your iPhone settings, and this will almost certainly solve the iTunes Store problems.

To Reset All Settings on your iPhone, open Settings and tap General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings. Enter your iPhone passcode, then tap Reset All Settings again to confirm the reset.

If even this doesn’t work, you might need to contact Apple.

11. Contact Apple Support

If, after all these steps, the iPhone iTunes Store app is still not working, then it’s time to contact Apple Support. They may have a clue what’s going on. Perhaps others are experiencing the issue or a new iOS update is causing issues with the iTunes Store? Whatever the possible reason, if you’ve reached this stage without success, then Apple Support is the people to talk to. Here’s how to contact Apple support.
