iPhone Connected to Wi-Fi But No Internet? Fix it Here! 2023

Last Updated On March 31, 2023 by GeeksModo Staff

Your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi, but there is no internet access but you don’t know why. There’s even a Wi-Fi icon at the top of your screen, indicating everything is okay. However, when you launch the Settings app and tap Wi-Fi, you might see ‘No Internet Connection’. Sometimes, you may not even get this error message. Still, Wi-Fi won’t work on iPhone. So, whether it’s an iOS 16, iOS 15, iOS 14, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, iPhone 11, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 7, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6, iPhone SE, connected to wifi but no internet, then this article is for you. In this troubleshooting guide, I’ll explain why iPhone is connected to wifi but no internet and show you how to fix the issue for good!

How to fix iPhone Connected to Wi-Fi But No Internet in 2023

Follow these steps to fix iPhone Connected to Wi-Fi But No Internet issue:

#1. Turn OFF/ON Wi-Fi on iPhone

The first thing you need to do when your iPhone is connected to wifi but no internet access is to turn off Wi-Fi and turn it back on. We suggest that you do this from the Settings instead of control Center.
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and then Turn Off the switch for Wi-Fi.

After a minute, tap the same switch to reconnect your iPhone to the Wi-Fi network.

Next, launch your favorite web browser and try to visit a site like geeksmodo.com. If it doesn’t load, try the next solutions.

#2. Enable Airplane Mode and Disable it on iPhone

Just like the previous solution, here comes another simple fix when iPhone is connected to wifi but no internet. For this, you can use the Control Centre or open the Settings app and tap on Airplane Mode switch to turn it on. Wait for about 30 seconds and then tap it again to disable Airplane mode.

Once your iPhone reconnects to Wi-Fi, launch your browser and visit a website of your choice and see if it loads or not.

#3. Restart Your iPhone and Wi-Fi Router

To restart your iPhone, simply start the Settings app and go to General, and then tap Shut Down.

Next, use the physical button on your router or use the main wall switch to turn off your Wi-Fi router.

Wait a minute and turn on your iPhone and router. this is most likely to resolve Wi-Fi issues on your iPhone. If iPhone connects to wifi but no internet still, try the next solution.

#4. Forget Wi-Fi and Reconnect It

Before you forget your WiFi Network, make sure you know the Wi-Fi password. If you do not know it, then skip this fix for the moment and try the other solutions.

  1. Start the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Now, tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Next, tap (i) next to the Wi-Fi name.
  4. Next on, tap Forget This Network and confirm.
  5. Finally, tap the Wi-Fi name from the list of NETWORKS, type in the password and reconnect it.

Check if your iPhone can connect to Internet. If iPhone is connected to wifi but no internet, try the next solution.

#5. Switch Off Wi-Fi Assist

Wi-Fi Assistautomatically uses cellular data when Wi-Fi connectivity is poor. Sometimes, this may interfere with proper working of Wi-Fi. In such a case, you need to switch off this feature. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Start the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on Cellular.
  2. Scroll down and disable Wi-Fi Assist.

If iPhone is connected to wifi but no internet access, try the next solution.

#6. Check Location Services

Sometimes, your iPhone needs Location Access for wi-Fi to work properly. You need to make sure the appropriate location setting is enabled for Wi-Fi.

  1. Start the Settings app on your iPhone and tap Privacy & Security (iOS 16).
  2. Now, tapn Location Services.
  3. Next, tap System Services.
  4. Finally, ensure the toggle for Networking & Wireless is enabled.

#7. Disable VPN

At times, a VPN may cause issues with the Wi-Fi connection on your iPhone. If a VPN is enabled on your iPhone, open the VPN app and turn it off. Alternatively, just launch the Settings app and toggle off the switch next to VPN.

In addition, if you have installed many unnecessary VPN apps on your iPhone, try uninstalling a few. This will also delete their VPN profiles.

#8. Reset All Network Settings

Simply follow these steps to restart the network settings on your iPhone:

  1. Start the Settings app and tap on General.
  2. Now, scroll down and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Next, tap Reset Network Settings.
  5. Finally, type in your iPhone’s passcode and confirm.

After the process ends, reconnect to Wi-Fi, and it will most likely fix iPhone not connecting to internet issue.

#9. Force Restart your iPhone

simply follow these steps to force restart your iPhone:

  1. Quickly press and release the volume up button.
  2. Quickly press and release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold down on the side button for about ten seconds. The iPhone will force restart.

Check to see if your iPhone can connect to the Internet. if your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi but no Internet access still, try the next solution.

#10. Reset your iPhone

Simply follow these steps to reset your iPhone to factory default:

  1. Start the settings app on your iPhone
  2. Tap General
  3. Scroll down and tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone
  4. Now, select “Erase all content and settings” and follow the onscreen prompts to reset your iPhone

#11. Check date and time settings

Make sure that the date and time on your iPhone are set correctly for your time zone. Here’s how:

Launch the Settings app and tap on General, then tap Date & Time.

If the date and time are incorrect, update them or turn on the option to set date and time automatically.

#12. Disable your ad blocker

If you still cannot use the internet even though the iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi, try disabling your ad blockers. Sometimes, ad blockers can interfere with internet connectivity. Ad blockers work by blocking ads and other unwanted content, which can sometimes include essential website elements that are necessary for internet connectivity. If you have an ad blocker installed on your iPhone, try disabling it and see if it fixes iPhone Wi-Fi connected but no internet issue.

Disabling an ad blocker on an iPhone is quite simple. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and select Safari.
  3. Under General, tap Extensions
  4. Toggle off Content Blockers.

If you have more than one ad blocker installed on your iPhone, you can individually turn them off under the ALLOW THESE CONTENT BLOCKERS section.

so i got an iphone 11 a few weeks ago all of my streaming apps sometimes just randomly don’t work. everyone in my home thinks it’s an issue with my speakers or that our wireless plan isn’t compatible with the iphone 11 but it does this even without headphones in and my dad has an iphone 11 that works perfectly. i tried most of these (not the reset stuff it’s too risky in my opinion) but none worked. please help me!!

Did not do a factory reset but nothing else worked. Why won’t FB and Google just pick up cellular network (all settings to do so are correct) if it thinks there is no internet (all other apps are fine).

None have worked for me. I show as connected to the WiFi when I go into WiFi, but am still on LTE on my main screen. I can connect to the internet through most apps, but some (like Facebook) say no internet connection.

None of this worked for me. After months, called iPhone support. Apparently some dumb adblocker app I’d installed 2 years ago was secretly gumming up the works with EVERYTHING. Got rid of it and all my apps now connect to the internet, my GPS talks out loud, my phone will hang up on calls when I want it to and not when I don’t… That tech support call was definitely time well spent.

Tried all but #10. I am not erasing all pics, contacts and doc’s stored on my phone. Appreciate the fix efforts. Guess I’ll call Apple help and see if they have a solution for it. By the way what ever it is, I had it on my old phone and the folks at Best Buy said my phone was the problem. It transferred to my new phone.

i have iphone 12 and a few weeks ago my wifi stopped connecting to the internet. orange writing just underneath the wifi network. Tried all fixes 1 – 9 nothing worked. All other devices in the house connect without any trouble including apple and android.
Bought another brand new iphone 12 into the wifi environment and same issue. OK!
tried connecting to another wifi network and all ok !
so im thinking issue is compatability between iphone 12 and wifi router. ( remember its the iphone 12 only) Apple help only also suggests the 1-9 actions

    Any suggestions ?…………….

I have this exact issue with my iPhone 12. Yesterday it worked fine on wifi and today I get the no internet message, while all other devices work just fine. If I forget the network and reconnect it works for about 10 seconds before disconnecting again.

Have you guys figured anything out with this? My iPhone 11 has been doing the same thing for almost two weeks now.. won’t work on my home internet (which it has for over a year and all other devices are working on the wifi) and it works fine on other wifi. I have tried everything short of doing a full reset for obvious reasons.

I’ve tried everything except no. 10 (Reset your iPhone). The only thing that works for me, at least temporarily, is no. 1 (Turn OFF/ON Wi-Fi on Phone); however, as I said, this is just a temporary fix. When I want to use my iPhone later, I have the same problem (Wi-Fi is connected but the Internet is not working) This happens constantly. Is there a permanent solution or do I have to keep turning off/on Wi-Fi?

Tap to turn Private Address OFF. If your device joined the network without using a private address, a privacy warning explains why.
