9 iOS 14 Settings You Should Turn Off Right Now

When you update your device to iOS 14, there are so many features that are turned on automatically by Apple. Many of them you don’t even know exist and most of them you don’t use. So it’s a good idea to turn them off. These features run in the background of your device and may drain your iPhone’s battery.

If you have a two or three year old iPhone then there is nothing to worry about. However, if you own an older iPhone model, you should turn off these iOS 14 settings to improve your iPhone’s Battery life as well as performance.

1. Turn Off Preload Top Hit

The Cupertino based brand introduced Preload top hit feature in iOS 14. Essentially, it loads the data on the first page of a search. , it automatically loads the first website appeared on the search page. The drawback of this feature is it will drain battery life, will consume some data and you might not end up launching that particular site.

To turn off Preload Top Hit:
Head over to Settings > Safari Settings > Turn off Preload Top Hit switch.

2. Check Important Privacy Settings

In the privacy settings, there are various options we need to turn off. After launching the location services page, a bunch of apps with location services Permission will appear. Check out all the apps and turn off all the apps that are set to always, and change it to While using the app.

To turn off Location Services:
Head over to Settings > Privacy > Location Services

3. Location Services

This one is also related to location services. In iOS 14, the Cupertino based company gave this permission to its users to set if they want to provide the exact precise location to the app owner or just an approximate location. So turning that feature off will stop your exact location sharing.

To turn off Precise Location:
Head over to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Select App > Turn off the Precise Location switch

4. Non-Essential System Services

There are a lot of System Services that always use in the background, most of them drains your iPhone’s battery life and if you turn them off these system services will not affect your overall usage.

To turn off System Services:
Head over to Settings > Privacy > System Services > Turn off almost all of them

  • You need to leave services such as Emergency Calls and SOS and Find my iPhone settings turned on.

5. Significant Locations

This feature keeps track of all the places you have visited. So it’s a good idea to turn off this setting and stop providing our location services to Apple. This will help in improving the battery life.

To turn off Significant Locations:
Head over to Settings > Privacy > System Services > Significant Locations > Turn off the switch

6. Product Improvement

I trust Apple can create outstanding products without our help. LOL. So it’s a good idea to turn off Product improvement settings. This will help to improve your battery life as well.

To turn off Product Improvement:
Head over to Settings > Privacy > System Services > Product Improvement Section > Turn off all the options

7. Analytics & Improvements

These settings also help Apple and app developers to improve their services. But also these settings send Analytics in the background which drains your iPhone’s battery so it’s a good idea to turn them off.

To turn off Analytics and Improvements:
Head over to Settings > Privacy > Analytics and Improvements > Turn off all the switches

8. Personalized Apple Advertising

Starting with iOS 14, users can turn off personalize Ad tracking for each individual app.

To turn off Personalized Apple Advertising:
Head over to Settings > Privacy > Apple Advertising > Turn off Personalized Ads switch

9. Background App Refresh

With Background app refresh turned on, certain apps can download content in the background of your iPhone even if you use the app or not. So it it’s a good idea to turn off the background app refresh setting for the apps you don’t want to run in the background all the time. It is good to turn off background app refresh for messaging apps, email apps, social media apps. This will really help in improving your overall battery life of your iOS device

To turn off Personalized Apple Advertising:
Head over to Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Turn off apps you don’t want to run in the background.
