Some users have reported that their iPhone 15 Pro keep dropping 5G service, showing a “No Service” notification at various points throughout the day, even in areas with strong service available.

If you’ve just gotten your iPhone 15 Pro and have noticed that 5G isn’t available after getting it set up or not working, there are several factors to check out to troubleshoot what’s going on. These include your wireless plan, SIM card, iOS settings, and more. Let’s dive into what to do if your iPhone 15 Pro 5G is not working.

Note: information in this article apply to iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • If 5G is not working on your iPhone 15 Pro, there are several ways to potentially resolve the issue.
  • To fix your 5G, try toggling both Airplane mode and Mobile Data in settings and reseating your SIM card.

Make Sure Your Carrier Supports 5G

First, ensure that your carrier supports 5G. Yeah, you got that right. As 5G is still new, not many carrier providers have implemented it as yet.

Make Sure 5G is Available in Your Region/ City

Another important thing that you should check without fail when 5G is not working on your iPhone 15 Pro is to make sure that 5G is available in your city. Depending on where you are, 5G availability can be limited. You might want to switch to LTE as the default until you get better 5G coverage in your area.

Open the Settings app then go to Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data and tap LTE. Your phone will then turn off its 5G connection, reverting to (sometimes) slower LTE connection. You can always turn 5G back on when you want it, or when service in your area improves by repeating the steps above and selecting 5G Auto. Or if you’d rather your iPhone 15 Pro not use Apple’s Smart Data mode, you can force it to always use a 5G connection when available by selecting 5G On.

Ensure That You Have a 5G Plan

Your iPhone 15 Pro won’t be able to connect to 5G if it’s not included with your cell phone plan. Not every carrier offers 5G, and some others may charge an additional fee for 5G access. Therefore, make sure to contact your carrier to check if you have a 5G plan. Do know that you might also have to pay some activation fee.

toggle Airplane Mode off and on

The most obvious way to restore 5G connection on an iPhone 15 Pro is to enable Airplane mode and then disable it. This will force the iPhone to reconnect to the cell network.

Slide down from the top-right corner of the screen, and tap the icon of the Airplane. Then tap it once more. Your iPhone should then reconnect to the cell phone network.

You can also toggle Airplane Mode on and off in Settings. Simply open Settings and tap the switch next to Airplane Mode to turn it on. Tap the switch again to turn it off again.

toggle 5G off and on

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Cellular.
  3. Tap Cellular Data Options.
  4. Tap Voice & Data.
  5. Switch to LTE and then back to 5G.

Toggle cellular data off and on again

If non of the above has worked, turning your iPhone’s cellular data function off and back on may help solve the issue. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Cellular.
  3. Toggle Cellular Data off and then back on.

Check for a carrier settings update

Apple and your wireless carrier occasionally release carrier settings updates to maintain and improve your iPhone’s connection to your carrier’s network. Most of the time, you’ll receive a pop-up on your iPhone when a carrier settings update is available.

You can also go to Settings > General > About to manually check for a carrier settings update. Wait on this page for about ten seconds to see if a pop-up appears. If one doesn’t, a carrier settings update is not available.

Check for iOS Updates

If there’s no carrier update, there might be an updated version of iOS. You can check for that in roughly the same place.

Start the Settings app.
Scroll down and tap on “General” menu option.
Under “General” tap “Software Update.”
If an update is available, tap download and install.

Take out the SIM card and reinsert it

Use the SIM ejector tool or an alternative to take out the physical SIM card from your iPhone carefully. After that, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth and insert it safely. Once that’s done, check if 5G is working.

Note: Skip this if you use an eSIM.

Is Low Power Mode enabled?

When low power mode is enabled, it restrict your iPhone 15 Pro from using 5G (except during video streaming.) Go to Settings > Battery to turn it off. Alternatively, you can tap the Low power Mode icon within the Control Center to turn it off.

Data limits

Have you reached your monthly data limit? Remember that monthly data cycles don’t necessarily begin and end on the first or last of the month, but on the day when you started your contract.

Sadly it’s not easy to track data usage limits on iPhone. If you go to Settings > Cellular (Or Mobile Data) and scroll down you can see your Mobile Data Usage, but if you’ve never reset this number it could be unhelpfully enormous. You can use your carrier’s official app or call customer support to know your data balance. In case you have some pending bills, clear that, and 5G should start working on your iPhone 15 Pro.

Reset network settings

If you tried all of the above but nothing changed, you can try resetting network settings. Here is how you can do it:

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset and tap on Reset network settings. Enter your Passcode and tap on Reset Network Settings. Keep in mind that this will also reset your Wi-Fi settings.

Check with your carrier

If you’ve tried everything else on the list and nothing seemed to fix your 5G not working on iPhone 15 Pro issue, contact your cell carrier and ask about any local outages, problems with your service plan, and if your device is blocked.
