3 Min Read

Has Apple Music stopped showing lyrics after iOS 17 update? Here are some easy ways to fix the problem.

Apple Music: One hundred million songs.

Have you ever played a song on Apple Music only to notice the lyrics aren’t there, even though you remember seeing them before? Sometimes, Apple Music doesn’t show lyrics for certain tracks after iOS 17 update. It’s a frustrating issue, but fortunately there are some easy fixes that will make any available lyrics show up again.

1. Close And Reopen The Music App

The Apple Music app may be experiencing a minor software issue. Closing and reopening the app may fix a minor iOS 17 glitch that’s preventing lyrics from showing up.

First, open the app switcher by double-pressing the Home button or swiping up from the bottom to the center of the screen (if your iPhone doesn’t have a Home button). Swipe Music up and off the top of the screen to close it.

2. Play Songs From the Artist Page Instead of Your Library

If Apple Music lyrics stop showing up when you’re playing music from your library or a playlist, try finding the song directly on the artist’s Apple Music page instead.

While playing the song in the Music app on your iOS 17 device, tap the artist name in the Now Playing view, then tap Go to Artist. This will take you out of your own music library and into Apple Music’s artist page. Here you can either find the song directly on the artist page, perhaps under Top Songs, or by opening the relevant album.

Often, playing a song from one of these pages will trigger Apple Music to load the lyrics if it didn’t previously. Tap the Lyrics icon at the bottom of the Now Playing screen to check it.

Once you get this working, there are many other handy Apple Music tips and tricks to explore.

3. Play Songs From a Different Version of the Album

If you still haven’t managed to get the lyrics to show up in Apple Music on your iOS 17 device, the lyrics might be attached to a song on a different version of the album. In some cases, we found that Apple Music would only load the lyrics when streaming from the standard album, not the deluxe version.

An easy way to find out if this works for you is again by tapping the artist name in the Now Playing view, then tapping Go to Album. Scroll to the bottom of the track list and you’ll see other versions of the album here, if there are any. Tap a different version, find the same song, and try playing from that album instead to see if there are lyrics attached to it.

4. Restart Your iPhone

Restarting your iPhone is really easy to do. And just like closing and reopening Apple Music app fixes simple issues, so can restarting your device.

To restart iPhone XR and later, press and hold the volume up or down button and the **side button** simultaneously. Keep holding both buttons until slide to power off appears on the screen. Swipe the red and white power icon from left to right to turn off your iPhone.

Wait about 60 seconds so your iPhone can completely shut down. Then, press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Your iPhone will turn on again shortly after.

To restart an **iPhone SE (second generation)** and newer, press and hold the power button. Keep holding until **slide to power off**appears on your screen. Swipe the red and white power icon across the screen to turn off your iPhone.

Give your iPhone approximately 60 seconds so it can completely shut down. Then, press and hold the power button to turn your iPhone on again. Release the power button when the Apple logo appears on the screen.

5. Not All Songs Have Lyrics on Apple Music

It’s unclear whether this is a bug that Apple needs to fix in Apple Music or just an odd discrepancy not including lyrics on all versions of a particular song. Regardless, these quick workarounds should make it easy for you to fix missing lyrics so you can read along or jam out.

Just remember, not all songs have lyrics on Apple Music. It’s up to the artist to upload them to the relevant databases and sometimes, particularly with independent musicians, that hasn’t happened yet. Hopefully Apple will add more lyrical content over time.
