iPhone Notifications can become rather annoying. Every app wants our attention, so we’re getting loads of irrelevant and unnecessary alerts. Thankfully,
Apple has made it really easy for us to keep iPhone notifications in control. If you want to make a better use out of youriPhone notifications, read on.
6 tips that will make your iPhone a much better device
1. Turn off Raise to Wake
Let’s start with turning off Raise to Wake feature, introduced to iPhone 6s and later with the launch of iOS 10. It may save you a little time, but it can disrupt you by showing your notifications
every time you pick up your phone from desk or pocket. Save yourself these few times by preventing accidental checking new alerts. To turn off Raise to Wake on an iPhone:
- Head over to Settings > Display & Brightness > Raise to Wake
2. Turn off notification previews
If you want to keep your notifications more private, then you will love this tip. The feature lets you hide the content of notifications on the lock screen. The full preview will be shown
only if your iPhone is unlocked. On iPhone X and later it’s turned on by default. Simply follow these steps to turn off notification previews on your iPhone:
- Head over to Settings > Notifications > Show Previews
3. Turn off most of the notifications
Do you really need a notification for every mention on Facebook or Twitter? I don’t think so. Turn off all notifications, with few exceptions
- Head over to Settings > Notifications
You may want to leave notifications on for the following apps:
- Leave notifications on for Messaging apps, however, I recommend that you turn off sound alerts to avoid unnecessary interruptions. Keep in mind to manually
turn off alerts from annoying group chats and chatbots. - Leave notifications on for phone calls. if someone phones me that means he or she want to communicate something important. It’s always the fastest way to get in touch with me, so I want to leave it open.
- Leave notifications on for productivity apps such as calendar and reminder so as you don’t miss anything important.
- Leave notifications on for taxi and food delivery. It’s great to know when your Uber is downstair or when your Burger is waiting.
4. Use History
If turning off all notifications sounds like a bad idea, you can try a different approach. You can turn off lock screen alerts but keep Show in History on. These
are notifications that you can see when you launch your Notification Center. I use it to access alerts about emails and other non-time-sensitive things.
- Head over to Settings > Notifications
5. Use Do Not Disturb Mode
I use Do Not Disturb on a daily basis. I hate the idea of being woken up in the middle of the night by some stupid alert
I have it scheduled from 9 pm to 9 am with exceptions for calls from my favorite contacts and repeated calls (second call from the same person within
three minutes goes through). This means, certain people can be able to contact me.
- Head over to Settings >Do Not Disturb
6. Turn off badges
These red dots are bad disruptors. You unlock your phone with an aim to do something, but after seeing the badge floating around Messages
icon you decide to attend it first and forget what you were supposed to do.
To turn of Badges on your iPhone:
- Head over to Settings > Notifications
