Some users have complained that their iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have started taking blurry photos or videos. More specifically, the photos or videos taken by the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are blurry, out of focus, grainy, unclear, and overall bad.

It seems that this problem may occur using the front and back camera on iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

When i experienced this problem on my iPhone 15 Pro, the shot looked great until I captured the photo. Once captured, it turned grainy and looked nothing like it did in the initial shot.

A similar issue is that the iPhone 15 Pro Camera is showing blurry images while trying to use FaceTime, Zoom, or similar video apps. If you are having a similar issue while you have a good and stable Wi-Fi or cellular data connection, there are a few things you can do.

In this article, I’ll explain possible reasons why the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max Camera app and your pictures or videos are blurry and show you how to fix the problem.

Why is iPhone 15 Pro Camera so blurry?

Several factors may cause this issue, such as software glitch, unclean lens or poor user execution. This article is for you if your iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max Camera app is taking blurry photos and videos.

Fix iPhone 15 Pro Camera Blurry Issue

1. Restart the Camera app

Simply restart the Camera app on your iPhone 15 Pro. This may fix your Camera if it is not working as expected. Here is how:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom edge of your screen and pause near the middle.
  2. Now find the Camera app. You can swipe left or right to find it.
  3. Swipe up on the Camera app.

Then open the Camera app and try to take photos.

2. Adjust auto-focus

The iPhone 15 Pro Camera is pretty sophisticated. However, it is possible that your camera may focus on the wrong subject or area. And this may result in blurry results. And the good news is that you can decide where to focus. This will fix this problem. Simply, tap on an area, a person, or an object in the Camera preview screen where you want the Camera to focus within the frame.

3. Update your iPhone

Ensure that your device is running the latest version of iOS. The Camera app will be updated, too, when you update your iPhone. For example, there could be an iOS update addressing possible iPhone 15 Pro Camera auto-focus problems, if your iPhone 15 Pro camera is unable to focus on an object when taking photos or videos. Here is how:

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Go into General.
  3. Tap Software Update.
  4. Your iPhone will check for updates. If there is an update, follow the instructions to install it.

4. Restart your iPhone

After ensuring that you have the latest version of iOS, restart your iPhone if your issue continues. This may be a temporary software glitch, and a simple restart may fix this glitch. Here is how:

  1. Press and hold the Side button and the Volume Up (or Down) buttons together until you see the power off slider.
  2. Move the slider from left to right.
  3. Wait for your iPhone to fully turn off. This will take a few seconds.
  4. Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.

5. Clean the Camera lens

Dust, fingerprints, or debris on the lens can interfere with your camera’s auto-focus feature. A dirty lens can be one of the biggest culprits. Furthermore, a humid indoor environment may produce a blurry, soft-focus effect. It is a good idea to clean the front of your lens. Your iPhone 15 Pro has two built-in cameras. One is located on the back of the phone and the other one is on the front of the phone. Using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, clean the lens. You should not use facial tissues.

6. Take off iPhone case

If you are using a case, your case may be the problem. Certain cases, especially metallic cases, may cause issues with optical image stabilization. Remove the case, take a photo and then compare the photos you take with and without the case.

7. Avoid camera shake

If you move your iPhone too much while taking photos, this may cause motion blur. To avoid this, hold your iPhone steady. Do not move and stay still until the photo is taken. You may want to hold it with your two hands.

8. Use Burst Mode

If your iPhone 15 Pro Camera is still taking blurry photos, you may want to shoot in Burst Mode especially if your objects are moving. Burst Mode lets you take multiple high-speed shots continuously in a second. Simply, open the Camera app and press and hold the Shutter button and drag it to the left. You can also use the Volume Up button if you enable it by going to Settings > Camera, and enable the “Use Volume Up For Burst” option.

You can view your photos and select the best one. Simply open the Photos app and find the photo and then tap Select.

9. More help

If your issue persists, you may want to contact Apple Support for further help. It is possible that your iPhone 15 Pro camera hardware needs to be fixed. You may further want to make a Genius Bar appointment.
