The Activity app on your iPhone allows you to view your activity progress and history. With the Activity app, you can track your activity and progress, so that you can optimize your workouts. The data that your Apple Watch collects should sync automatically and wirelessly with your iPhone.

Sometimes you may notice that the Activity App is not working correctly and you don’t know what to do. If you see your Apple Watch not tracking activity, you might get frustrated. Well, if that is the case, then here are step-by-step instructions that will help you fix the Apple Watch stopped tracking activity issue for good.

How to fix Activity App Not Working issue

Sometimes, sync may fail. If your activity isn’t syncing, meaning the Activity app on your iPhone is not updating; try the following troubleshooting steps. It’s important to try the steps below in order. After each step, please check to see if your problem is fixed.

1. Make sure that the Bluetooth setting on your iPhone is on. Head over to Settings > Bluetooth.
2. Make sure that your Watch is sufficiently charged.
3. On your iPhone and Apple watch, turn on Airplane mode and wait 20 seconds and turn it back off.<

  • On your iPhone: head over to Settings > Airplane Mode.
  • On your watch: head over to Settings > Airplane Mode.

4. Restart your iPhone: head over to Settings > General and Shut Down.
5. Restart your Apple Watch: press and hold the side button and then slide the Power Off slider. To power your watch back on, press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
6. Close the Activity app on your iPhone. Follow these steps:

  • To restart iPhone X or newer: head over to Home screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, you will see the most recently used apps, find the Activity app, and then swipe up on the app.
  • To restart iPhone 8 or older: Double-tap the Home button, and find the app and swipe it up.
  • To restart an Apple Watch: Press the Digital Crown to go to the Home screen. Then open the Activity app. Firmly press the display. This will reveal the Activity app options. Tap Change Move Goal and slightly change your daily move goal and tap the red Update button. Check to see if your issue is fixed. If Apple Watch activity app not working, try the next solution.

7. Make sure both your iPhone and Apple Watch are running the latest software version:

  • To update your iPhone: go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • To update your Apple Watch, place your Watch on its charger, launch the watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch and then tap General > Software Update.

8. Is your Apple Watch activity tracker not tracking steps yet? Please ensure that these settings are enabled on your iPhone.

  • Head over to Settings > Privacy > Privacy > Location Services and make sure that Location Services is turned on.
  • Again head over to Settings > Privacy > Privacy > Location Services and tap System Services and then ensure that Motion Calibration & Distance is enabled.

9. Calibrate your watch. To do this, you need to run outdoor or walk on a flat surface for at least 20 minutes. Here’s how:

  • Ensure your Apple watch is on your wrist.
  • Go outdoors. Ensure there is a clear view of the sky. Inaddition, make sure that the area is flat.
  • Launch the Workout app and select Outdoor Walk or Outdoor Run.
  • Now, walk or run for at least 20 minutes. Once you are through, tap to end the activity.

Also, try to reset your calibration data by launching the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Then tap on My Watch, then tap Privacy > Reset Fitness Calibration Data. Check to see if your issue is resolved.

10. Unpair your Apple Watch. Keep in mind, you will need to pair it with your iPhone to use it again. On your iPhone, launch the Watch app, then tap My Watch tab located at the bottom of the display > your Watch (top of the screen). Now tap the (i) icon next to the Watch icon. And tap Unpair Apple Watch. And confirm this by tapping Unpair Apple Watch.

Note, you’ll be required to type in your Apple ID to unpair your Apple Watch. By entering your Apple ID password, you will remove this watch from your account and disable Activation Lock. Type in your Apple ID password and then tap Unpair. And then pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone.
