Your Apple Watch comes with a variety of watch faces, most of which you can customize. See Change Apple Watch faces to learn more.

The set that follows might differ from what you see on your Apple Watch, since not all watch faces are available in all countries or regions or on all models. To see the latest set, make sure your software is up to date. Activity Analog, for example, shows your Activity progress over a traditional analog clock.

Activity Analog

Your Activity progress is superimposed over a traditional analog clock. You can see your Activity rings as subdials or in the familiar stacked design.

Quick tip: Add the Moon complication to a corner of any watch face that includes it, and you’ll see the time of the next moonrise or moonset. Say it shows 11:44 PM, 12H 4M: That means the moon sets below the horizon at your location at 11:44 in the evening, 12 hours and 4 minutes from the current time.

To start timing, tap the main 12-hour dial to align the marker on the outer edge with the minute hand, turn the Digital Crown to set the length of time, then tap Start. To return the face to its default state, tap the red elapsed time button, then tap Stop.

Exactograph

This watch face separates hours, minutes, and seconds onto separate dials for precise timekeeping. Tapping the face expands each dial by 5 times, revealing smaller increments of time for even more precision.

If you have an Apple Watch Ultra model, this face offers seven complications and six options for the time’s size and layout. Important information, like your compass heading or a running stopwatch, is easy to see in the large complication in the middle.

The outer edges, or bezel, can show the seconds counting up to a minute, or real-time depth or elevation data. There’s also the Training bezel, with Vitals data on the left outer edge and training load data on the right outer edge.

World Time

This watch face lets you track the time in 24 time zones at once. The locations around the outer dial represent the different time zones, while the inner dial shows the current time in each location. Tapping the globe centers it to the time zone you’re in, which is also noted by the arrow at 6 o’clock.

As night and day move across the earth, the globe’s light and dark zones reflect them, and the sun and moon icons stand for sunrise and sunset where you are.

How to change Apple Watch faces

Personalize your Apple Watch face so it looks the way you want and provides the functions you need. Choose a design, adjust colors and features, then add it to your collection. Switch faces at any time to see the right timekeeping tools—or to shake things up.

The Face Gallery in the Apple Watch app is the easiest way to see all of the available watch faces, customize one, and add it to your collection. But if your iPhone isn’t handy, you can customize the face right on your watch. You can delete a face from your collection, too. For more, see Apple Watch faces and their features.

Add a watch face in the Face Gallery

From the Face Gallery, you can customize any watch face that looks interesting, choose complications, and add the face to your collection.

Apple Watch app open to the Face Gallery. The top row shows faces that are new, the next rows show watch faces grouped by type—Health and Fitness, and Photos. You can scroll to see more faces grouped by type.

  1. Start the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Face Gallery and then tap a category like Health and Fitness, Photos, or Data Rich.

    To view all watch faces, scroll down, then tap See All Watch Faces.

  3. Scroll to a face and tap Get. Tap an option.
  4. To customize the watch face, do any of the following:

    • Choose features for a face: Tap a feature such as color or style.

      As you play with different options, the face at the top changes so you can make sure the design is just right.

    • Add complications: Tap a complication position (such as Top Left, Top Right, or Bottom), swipe to see which complications are available for that position, and tap the one you want.

      If you decide you don’t want a complication in that position, scroll to the top of the list and tap Off.

  5. When you’re finished customizing your watch face, tap Add to Watch.

    The face is added to your collection and becomes the current face on your Apple Watch.

Add a watch face to your Apple Watch

Your own collection of custom faces can even include variations of the same design.

  1. With the current watch face showing, touch and hold the display.
  2. Swipe left all the way to the end and tap the Add button.
  3. Tap a collection, such as New Watch Faces or Data Rich, to browse a specific category of watch faces.

    Tip: To view all watch faces, scroll down, then tap All Watch Faces.

  4. Tap Get next to the watch face you want and tap Add.

    After you add the watch face, you can customize it.

Choose a different watch face

  1. With the current watch face showing, touch and hold the display.
  2. Swipe to the watch face you want and tap it.

    Tip: You can also swipe from one watch face to another. Go to the Settings app on your Apple Watch, tap Clock, then turn on Swipe to Switch Watch Face.

View your collection

All your watch faces are visible at a glance.

  1. Start the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap My Watch. Swipe through your collection below My Faces.

To rearrange the order of your collection, tap Edit in My Faces, then drag the Reorder icon next to a watch face up or down.

You can also rearrange the order of your collection on Apple Watch. With the current watch face showing, touch and hold the display, touch and hold again, then drag the selected watch face left or right.

Delete a face from your collection

  1. With the current watch face showing, touch and hold the display.
  2. Swipe to the face you don’t want, swipe up, and tap Remove.

Or, on your iPhone, go to the Apple Watch app, tap My Watch, then tap Edit in the My Faces area. Tap the Delete button next to the watch faces you want to delete, then tap Remove.

Set the watch ahead

  1. Start the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Clock.
  3. Tap +0 min and then turn the Digital Crown to set the watch ahead by as much as 59 minutes.

Only the time shown on the watch face changes with this setting. Alarms, times in notifications, and any other times, like World Clock, aren’t affected.

How to add complications to the watch face on your Apple Watch

On Apple Watch, you can add special features—called complications—to some watch faces, so you can instantly check things like stock prices, the weather report, or information from other apps you installed.

Most apps open right from their complication, and some show just what you need with a glance. Apps you get from the App Store can include complications, too.

Add complications to the watch face

  1. With the watch face showing, touch and hold the display and then tap Edit.
  2. Swipe left all the way to the end.

    If a face offers complications, they’re shown on the last screen.

  3. Tap a complication to select it and turn the Digital Crown to choose a new one—Activity or Heart Rate, for example.
  4. When you’re finished, press the Digital Crown to save your changes and tap the face to switch to it.

Complications also come with some apps you get from the App Store.

Complication options on Apple Watch

You can open most apps by tapping a complication on the watch face. Some complications show specific information from a particular app so you see just what you need with a glance. Weather, for example, includes complications for air quality, conditions, temperature, and more.
