App Store

Are you unable to download apps on your iPhone after iOS 26 update? There are several reasons your iPhone might not let you download any apps, from problems with your internet connection to a lack of storage on your device. Here are some solutions you can try if you can’t download apps after updating to iOS 26.

1. Test Your Internet Connection

For your iPhone to download apps from the App Store, it needs a working internet connection. Most of the time, you should connect to Wi-Fi, since cellular downloads use up your data allowance and often only let you download apps smaller than 200MB.

After connecting to Wi-Fi, test your internet connection by streaming a video on YouTube. If the connection is slow or unstable, toggle Wi-Fi off and back on from the Control Center. You can access this by swiping down from the top-right corner of your iPhone screen.

Problems with Wi-Fi can be caused by temporary service outages or local network hardware failure. You might want to power cycle your router and modem (waiting around 10 seconds between switching devices off and then on again) to rule out local network problems as a cause.

If you need to use mobile data to download apps instead, make sure you allow the App Store to use cellular data on your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular.
  2. Scroll down to the list of apps and turn on App Store.
  3. Then go to Settings > Apps > App Store, tap App Downloads and choose if you want your iPhone to ask permission before downloading apps over 200MB in size.

2. Disable Your VPN

VPNs are useful and almost certainly worth paying for, but they can cause all sorts of problems too. This could be a temporary problem with your chosen VPN provider or local server, but it could also be so-called “suspicious” activity that Apple has chosen to block. Sometimes, VPN providers that offer a kill switch to disable all internet traffic when the connection drops.

The easiest way to rule out your VPN as a cause is to disable it and try again. To do this, open your VPN provider’s app and disconnect. You can also try switching servers, to see if the problem is caused by your configuration.

Open the App Store and try downloading apps again. Don’t forget to enable your VPN again when you’re done troubleshooting!

3. Make Sure Your Have Enough Free Space

Internal iPhone storage is not expandable. You can’t download new apps on your iPhone if you’ve already filled up your device with photos, videos, music, and other content.

When this happens, an alert should pop up saying “Not Enough Storage.”

Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage to see how much free space you have and take a look at which apps are using the most. There are plenty of ways to create more free space on your iPhone if you need to, such as offloading apps, uploading photos to the cloud, or deleting junk that you no longer need. You can do all of this from the iPhone storage settings.

4. Add a payment method

You might need to have a valid payment method on file, even if the app that you want to download is free.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name.
  3. Tap Payment & Shipping. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple Account.
  4. Tap Add Payment Method.
  5. Enter the payment method details, then tap Done.

If you’ve already added a payment method, it’s possible that the payment details on your account expired, so you should check if you need to update them.

5. Make Sure the Date and Time Are Set Correctly

You may encounter problems downloading apps on iOS 26 if the date and time aren’t set correctly for your time zone. An easy fix to this is to set the date and time automatically by going to Settings > General > Date & Time.

6. Turn Off Content and Privacy Restrictions

The content and privacy restrictions on an iPhone let you limit settings, apps, or features to keep the device safe for children. However, those same limitations explain why you can’t download new apps after iOS 26 update.

To edit your restrictions:

  1. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  2. If prompted, enter your Screen Time passcode, which may be different from the standard passcode you use to unlock your iPhone.
  3. Turn off all Content & Privacy Restrictions at the top of the screen or change the following setting:
    • Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases > Installing Apps.
    • Select Allow to enable installing apps.

7. Pause and Resume Your App Download

with pause and prioritize options
Sometimes, if your iPhone won’t download apps on iOS 26, all you need to do to fix it is pause the download, then resume it again. You can do this from the Home Screen on your device.

While an app is downloading, it should appear on the Home screen as a darkened app icon with a progress circle in the middle. Tap it to pause the download—causing a pause symbol to appear. Wait a few seconds, then tap it again to resume the download.

Alternatively, tap and hold on the app icon to reveal a quick-action menu. You can choose to Pause Download or Resume Download from this menu as well.

Alternatively, you have the option to Prioritize Download from the quick-action menu. This is a good idea if your iPhone is downloading other content as well, since it prioritizes this app above all other downloads.

8. Sign Out of the App Store, Then Sign In Again

Though problems downloading apps on your iPhone after iOS 26 update is likely a connectivity issue, signing out of App Store and then in again is also worth a shot. You can do this under Settings > [Your Name] > Media & Purchases by tapping the “Sign Out” button. This will sign you out of the App Store while leaving your main Apple account signed in.

You can then sign in and attempt to access the App Store again, using the same menu.

9. Restart Your iPhone

A quick restart can resolve any temporary glitches that may be preventing your iPhone from downloading apps on iOS 26. You can restart your iPhone by asking Siri to “restart my iPhone” which will power down and then power up your device.

Alternatively, press and hold the Side button with either Volume button. When prompted, slide to power off your iPhone.

Wait 30 seconds after it powers off before pressing the Side button again to restart it.

10. Delete the App, Then Download It Again

Sometimes a download becomes so corrupted that the only way to fix it is deleting the half-downlaoded app and downloading it again from scratch. If you never used the app before, there’s nothing to lose from doing this.

However, if you were trying to update an app rather than download it for the first time, deleting it might also delete any data you have saved in the app. You should make a backup of your iPhone before deleting apps to protect your data.

When you want to delete an app from your iPhone, tap and hold the app icon on the Home Screen. In the quick-action menu that appears, tap Remove App, tap Delete App, then tap Delete to confirm.

After deleting an app, restart your iPhone and download it again from the App Store.

11. Consider Resetting Network Settings

If you’ve tried everything and you still can’t update apps after iOS 26 update, consider resetting your network settings. Doing this will restore settings like DNS and proxy configurations to factory defaults, and you’ll also lose all of your saved Wi-Fi credentials for any wireless networks you have added to your device.

If you’re sure you want to do this, head to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset and pick “Reset Network Settings” from the list of options that appear. Confirm your choice and wait for the reset to complete.

The first thing you’ll probably want to do is head to Settings > Wi-Fi and connect to your local wireless network. You can then try downloading apps again.

Conclusion

By now, you should be able to download as many apps as you want. If your iPhone still won’t download apps from the App Store on iOS 26, contact Apple Support for more help.

How to Fix an iPhone 13 Pro Max That Cannot Connect to App Store

There are several ways to fix an iPhone 13 Pro Max that cannot connect to App Store. If your iPhone 13 Pro Max won’t open App Store, try these fixes, in this order:

1. Make sure it is a user-end problem

First of all, you’ll want to make sure the problem is on your end and not a wider problem with Apple. The best way to do this is to visit Apple system status page to see if App Store is down. If the problem is on Apple’s side, then you’ll need to wait for Apple to fix it.

2. Restart the App Store app

Sometimes a simple force close is all you need when your iPhone 13 Pro Max cannot connect to App Store! You can do this by simply swiping up from the bottom of the screen and then swiping up on the App Store on the app switcher. After you quit the App, check if your iPhone 13 Pro Max can now connect to App Store.

3. Toggle airplane mode on and off

Not sure how much this one works, but I have heard a lot of people say that switching Airplane Mode on and then off will help the iPhone 13 Pro Max connect to the App Store. Hey, it’s not a complicated process, and it’s safe. Why not try, right?

  1. Access your iPhone’s Control Center by swiping down from the top-right of the screen.
  2. Turn on Airplane mode.
  3. Wait a few seconds.
  4. Tap the icon to turn off Airplane mode.

Try to open the App Store. If your iPhone 13 won’t connect to App Store, try the next solution.

4. Toggle Wi-Fi off and on

Just like with Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi could be the reason why your iPhone 13 Pro Max cannot connect to App Store. Not to mention, your network may very well be having simple connection issues. Toggle Wi-Fi on and off, and check if your iPhone 13 can connect to App Store.

  1. Bring up your iPhone’s Control Center, as mentioned above.
  2. In the top-left block, check if the Wi-Fi is already switched on and lit up as blue. Tap to turn it off if so

It may seem too simple or easy, but refreshing your cellular data connection could solve the problems you’re having. Try switching mobile data off and on, and see if the problem persists. To do this:

  1. Launch your iPhone’s Control Center, by swiping down from top right of your screen.

  3. Wait a few seconds.
  4. Tap the icon to turn on your iPhone’s cellular data again.

6. Restart your router

In some cases, you can fix the problem of iPhone 13 Pro Max not connecting to App Store by simply restarting your router. It might seem silly, but give it a try, and you might affect the Wi-Fi magic enough to get App Store going again. Some routers allow restarts to be triggered through an app, while others may have a physical button. If yours has neither, you can unplug the router’s power source and plug it back in.

7. Restart your phone

It seem obvious, but something as simple as a reboot might be all what you need to fix iPhone 13 Pro Max not connecting to App Store issue. There may be a temporary glitch in the operating system or a software component. A restart usually resolves these issues. This will take a minute or two and might work.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Shut Down.
  4. Press the Side button to power your iPhone back on.

8. Check your date and time settings

Apple periodically checks your iPhone’s date and time for the Play Store. In case there is a discrepancy between the actual time and what is displayed on your iPhone, Apple’s servers could have a tough time syncing with your device and cause App Store connection problem.

To fix this issue, make your iPhone automatically set its date and time so that it’s always correct. If that isn’t helping, try to set your time and date as exact as possible.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Select Date & time.
  4. Toggle the Set automatically toggle to get your time from the internet.

9. Disable your VPN

Having a VPN is a great way to get all your favorite media outside your geographic location. But your VPN could be causing you problems with your App Store in the region you’re currently in. Plenty of users have reported that their iPhone 13 Pro Max cannot connect to App Store when a VPN is enabled.

Because of this, even if those others are working perfectly on your iOS device, you should still check to see if internet connectivity is an issue.
To do this, you can shut off the Wi-Fi on your iPhone, so that it switches over to cellular data. This might come up as LTE on the top of your screen, or in some cases 4G, depending on your signal quality and wireless carrier.

Start the settings app and go to General.

These are the two specific ports that must be open for the App Store and iTunes to work properly. If one of those ports is blocked, that could be the reason why your iPhone 12 App Store app is not working.
The one that most commonly becomes blocked on the iPhone is port 443. To rule out this problem, try to access Google on your iPhone. If Google is working as expected, then that port is working correctly

You Can Restore Your iPhone to the Original Factory Settings

The last troubleshooting step that you might try before taking your iPhone to an Apple Store is to restore the Device to factory settings. First, back up your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes, whichever method you find convenient. The vast majority of people prefer iTunes since they might have it on their laptop or PC already to manage their music collection.
To use iTunes to restore an iOS device to factory settings, you must build a connection between your iPhone and computer using a USB cable. It’s recommended to use an Apple original cable for best results. Where you see the iPhone come up under the list of devices on the left-hand side of the screen, select it. Click Restore. iTunes will erase your device. Then, it will restore it with the latest version of iOS. Wait for the device to be restored with the factory settings, then try the App Store again.

The Mac App Store is a fantastic place where you can download all types of applications and programs designed specifically for your Mac. However, the Mac App Store is not, like all other App Stores, without its fair share of hooks. One of the most common issues with the Mac App Store is where it returns an error message saying “Cannot connect to the App Store” every time an affected user tries to launch it.

This is a problem in which the affected Mac user’s simply can’t connect to the Mac App Store. The cause for this issue ranges from a unreliable internet connection to a problem with certificates in the KeyChain app. In most situations, simple solutions such as closing and then re-launching the Mac App Store or logging out of the Mac App Store by clicking on Store > Logout and then logging back in to it fixes the problem. However, if none of these fixes manage to resolve this problem, fear not as in this troubleshooting guide, I’ll explain the most effective solutions that you can use to try and fix the “Cannot connect to the App Store” error message and re-establish a connection back to the Mac App Store:

Please note: Before you jump into it, make sure that the date and time is set correctly on your device. If the time and date is incorrect, the appstore will not connect.

Here are step-by-step instructions which you can follow to troubleshoot when your Mac can’t connect to the Apple App Store and won’t download, install, or update apps.

Cannot Send or Receive Messages on Your Mac?

  1. First, let’s ensure that your network is working properly. Make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet. Check to see if websites load in Safari or other web browsers. If you are experiencing “Cannot connect to the App Store” error, you would, at your earliest, suspect your internet connection as the culprit. As such, the first fix you can try is to check to see if your internet connection is working. Please follow these steps:
  • Click on the Apple logo in the toolbar at the top. Click on System Preferences in the contextual menu. Click on Network. Check to see if there is a green icon next to the network you are connected to. If the green icon is present, your internet connection is not to blame. However, if there is a red icon next to the network you are connected to, your internet connection is down and that is most probably why your Mac can’t connect to the Mac App Store. If that’s the case, here are troubleshooting tips you can try:
    • Restart your Mac: Go to Apple menu > Restart.
    • Restart your router/modem (Disconnect your Mac from the power source, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in).
    • Turn off and on Wi-Fi. (Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar).
    • Contact your Internet service provider to find out if there are any outages.
  • Make sure that Apple Mac App Store servers are up and running. Head over to
    Apple’s System Status website
    and check..
  • Sign out and back to iTunes. Open iTunes. From the top menu bar, click Account and then Sign out. After signing out, sign back in.
  • Launch the App Store on your Mac and then click Store (top menu bar) and click sign Out and then sign back in.
  • If you are using a VPN or proxy to connect to the Internet, turn them off and check if that fixes your issue.
  • Update your Mac. Make sure that your Mac is running the latest version of OS. If you are running macOS Mojave or later, head over to System Preferences > Software Update and then click Check for Updates. If an update is available, update the software on your Mac by following the on-screen prompts. If you are running an earlier version of the macOS software (for instance, macOS High Sierra, etc,) please launch the App Store and click Updates.
  • On your Mac, make sure that the date and time are set correctly. Head over to System Preferences > Date & Time to check this. Also, consider checking the box for “Set date and time automatically”.
  • Restart your Mac in Safe Mode. You can restart your Mac by pressing and holding the Shift key as your Mac starts up (turn off your Mac then turn on and immediately press and hold the Shift key). Try the App Store in Safe Mode and then restart your Mac normally (this time, do not press the Shift key).
  • The KeyChain application stores passwords and certificates that your Mac uses to establish secure connections from apps, and that includes the Mac App Store. An issue with some certificates that the KeyChain app contains can also cause “Cannot connect to the App Store” error. If that is what’s causing this problem in your case, here’s what you can do in order to edit certain certificates in the KeyChain application and fix this issue. On your Mac, try the steps below:
    • Launch the Keychain Access app (Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access).
    • Now, click “System Roots”.
    • Next, double Click “DigiCert High Assurance EV root CA”.
    • Next on, click “Trust” to expand it.
    • Now, you need to change “When using this certificate” from “Use System Defaults” to “Never Trust”.
    • Next, restart your Mac.
    • Finally, when your Mac is on, follow the same steps to change “When using this certificate” back to “Use System Defaults”.
  • Launch Finder.
  • From the top menu, click Go > Go to Folder and type in the following command:
  • /var/db/crls/
  • Hit Go.
  • Now, delete these files: “crlcache.db” and “ocspcache.db”. If asked, type in your admin password.
  • Finally, restart your Mac.

App Store is one of those apps we take for granted, mainly because it simply works as a mediator between users and their precious apps. Hell freezes and the sky falls once you encounter the problem of iPhone 14 Pro Max not connecting to App Store, though. How will you download that new app you have been desperately waiting for? There’s no definite manual for fixing the App Store, but we have put together a set of tips and tricks that will most likely help.

How to Fix an iPhone 14 Pro Max That Cannot Connect to App Store

There are several ways to fix an iPhone 14 Pro Max that cannot connect to App Store. If your iPhone 14 Pro Max won’t open App Store, try these fixes, in this order:

1. Make sure it is a user-end problem

Before you go through a bunch of steps attempting to fix a problem, make sure the problem isn’t with Apple itself. The best way to do this is to visit Apple system status page to see if App Store is down. If the problem is on Apple’s side, then you’ll need to wait for Apple to fix it.

2. Force close the App Store

Sometimes a simple force close is all you need when you have issues with the iPhone 14 Pro Max App Store not working! You can do this by simply swiping up from the bottom of the screen and then swiping up on the App Store on the app switcher. After you quit the App, check if your iPhone 14 Pro Max can now connect to App Store.

3. Toggle airplane mode on and off

I’m not sure how much this one works, but I have heard a lot of people say that switching Airplane Mode on and then off will help the iPhone 14 Pro Max connect to the App Store.

If your iPhone 14 Pro Max won’t connect to App Store, try the next solution.

4. Toggle Wi-Fi off and on

Just like with Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi could be the reason why your iPhone 14 Pro Max cannot connect to App Store. Not to mention, your network may very well be having simple connection issues. Toggle Wi-Fi on and off, and check if your iPhone 14 Pro Max can connect to App Store.

  1. Bring up your iPhone’s Control Center, as mentioned above.
  2. In the top-left block, check if the Wi-Fi is already switched on and lit up as blue. Tap to turn it off if so
  3. Wait a few seconds.
  4. Tap the icon to turn on your iPhone’s Wi-Fi again.

5. Toggle Your iPhone’s Cellular Data off and on

If you are using cellular data to access the App Store, turning your iPhone’s Cellular data function off and back on may fix the issue you are experiencing. It may seem too simple or easy, but refreshing your cellular data connection could solve the problems you’re having. Try switching mobile data off and on, and see if the problem persists. To do this:

  1. Launch your iPhone’s Control Center, by swiping down from top right of your screen.
  2. In the top-left block, check if the Cellular Data icon (an antenna) is already switched on and lit up as green. Tap to turn it off if so
  3. Wait a few seconds.
  4. Tap the icon to turn on your iPhone’s cellular data again.

6. Restart your router

In some cases, you can fix the problem of iPhone 14 Pro Max not connecting to App Store by simply restarting your router. It might seem silly, but give it a try, and you might affect the Wi-Fi magic enough to get App Store going again. Some routers allow restarts to be triggered through an app, while others may have a physical button. If yours has neither, you can unplug the router’s power source and plug it back in.

7. Restart your iPhone

Something as simple as a reboot might do the trick. We’ve found that doing this will solve iPhone 14 Pro Max not connecting to App Store issue. This will take a minute or two so it’s worth a try.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Shut Down.
  4. Press the Side button to power your iPhone back on.

8. Check your date and time settings

It may seem like a silly suggestion, but this can often cause many App Store issues. This could be due to Apple’s servers having trouble syncing with your date and time settings. Go back and put them on Set Automatically, if they aren’t. If that isn’t helping, try to set your time and date as exact as possible. Just play around with the time and date settings a bit.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Select Date & time.
  4. Toggle the Set automatically toggle to get your time from the internet.

9. Disable your VPN

Plenty of users have reported that their iPhone 14 Pro Max cannot connect to App Store when a VPN is enabled. Have you tried deactivating these (if you are using them)? If you’re using a VPN app, you can go into the app and turn off your secure connection. If you added the VPN manually, you can go into the Settings and turn it off.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Tap on VPN & Device Management.
  4. Disable any active VPN.

10. Update iOS

Another thing that may help is to download and install the latest version of iOS. The most current version of the software is likely to fix the iPhone 14 Pro Max cannot connect to App Store issue, so it’s useful to keep it updated.

You can update iOS wirelessly by following the steps below:

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Software update.
  4. If an iOS update is available, tap download and install.

11. Reset all iPhone settings

We’re now coming to slightly more drastic solutions. If your iPhone 14 Pro Max still cannot connect to App Store, then you may need to reset all settings on your device. Doing this won’t erase your data, but it can solve the problem of iPhone 14 Pro Max not connecting to App Store.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Select Reset.
  5. Choose Reset All Settings.

12. Reset your iPhone to factory settings

If all else fails and your iPhone 14 Pro Max cannot connect to app store, wipe your device clean and give it a fresh start. At this point, we have no idea what could be causing your App Store discrepancies, but resetting your iPhone to factory defaults will likely fix most of your issues, as it deletes everything on the device and leaves it the way it was when you turned it on for the very first time. You can perform a factory reset by following the instructions below:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
