How to use the Podcasts widget on iPad

You can add the Podcasts widget to your Home Screen to view and play episodes without opening the Podcasts app. You can add episodes from the Up Next queue, saved episodes, or episodes from a show you follow.

It comes in different sizes and layouts. You can customize most Podcasts widgets after you add them, and you’re able to move a widget to a new location on your Home Screen or remove it when you don’t need it anymore.

Add a Podcasts widget to the Home Screen

  1. Touch and hold the Home Screen until the apps begin to jiggle.
  2. Tap the Edit button at the top of the screen. Tap Add Widget to open the widget gallery.
  3. Scroll down and tap Podcasts.
  4. Swipe left and right to view the different widget sizes and layouts. When you see the option you like, tap Add Widget. Then tap the Done button at the top of the screen.

To move the widget on your Home Screen, touch and hold the Home Screen until the apps begin to jiggle. Drag the widget to a new location, then tap the Done button.

Customize a widget

You can customize most Podcasts widgets after adding them. (The Up Next widget can only be added and removed.)

  1. Touch and hold the widget on the Home Screen.
  2. Tap Edit Widget.
  3. Do any of the following:
    • Edit a Library widget: Choose which list to display, such as Latest Episodes, Saved Episodes, Downloaded Episodes, or a station you created.
    • Edit a show widget: Choose a show from your followed shows. Your most recently played shows appear at the top.

Remove a widget

  1. Touch and hold the Home Screen until the apps begin to jiggle.
  2. Tap the Remove button at the top left of the widget.
  3. Tap Remove.

How to use keyboard shortcuts in Freeform on iPad

If your iPad is connected to an iPad keyboard, you can use keyboard shortcuts to quickly perform actions in the Freeform app. You can start a new board, duplicate a board, move between the items on a board, or group multiple items to become one unit. And you can learn the keyboard shortcuts right on your iPad.

Examples of keyboard shortcuts

  • Start a new board: Press Command-N.
  • Create a copy of a board (duplicate): Press Shift-Command-D.
  • Move between the items on a board: Press Tab.
  • Move an item behind all items: Press Shift-Command-B.
  • Group multiple items to become one unit (after selecting them): Press Option-Command-G.

Learn keyboard shortcuts

Press and hold the Globe key or Command (⌘) key until the shortcuts appear.

How to see the FileVault recovery key for your Mac in Passwords on iPad

When you secure the data on your Mac with FileVault, you get a recovery key during setup. If you forget your Mac password, you can reset it by entering the recovery key, and you can see that key in the Passwords app on your iPad.

You can copy the recovery key to use elsewhere, too. It shows up on your iPhone or iPad, as long as it’s signed in to the same Apple Account as your Mac.

  1. Go to the Passwords app on your iPad.
  2. Tap All, then tap the name of your Mac in the list.
  3. Tap the Recovery Key field.
  4. To copy the password to use elsewhere, tap Copy Recovery Key.

Note: You can see the recovery key for your Mac in the Passwords app on your iPhone or iPad where you’re signed in to the same Apple Account as your Mac.

How to report an issue with Maps on iPad

If you notice something’s missing in Maps—an address, business, transit stop, or another feature—you can add it. You can also report other kinds of issues, such as an incorrect step in directions or a business that has closed, from the Reports option next to the search field.

To change the address used for your home or work, you can add a pin to your Places. And you can clear your location history and delete recent directions in Maps, too.

  1. Go to the Maps app on your iPad.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Touch and hold the map until a pin marker appears, scroll to the bottom of the card, then tap Report Something Missing.
    • Tap your picture or initials next to the search field, tap Reports, then tap Report a New Issue.
  3. Choose an option and then follow the onscreen instructions.

Any business, large or small, can use Apple Business to help its customers find it in Apple Maps, Wallet, Siri, and more.

How to print a Freeform board on iPad

You can print a Freeform board from the Freeform app on your iPad. If you saved scenes in your board, you can choose to print the entire board as a single page, or to print one scene per page instead.

  1. Go to the Freeform app on your iPad.
  2. Open the board you want to print, tap the Actions Menu button, and then tap Print.

    If you saved scenes in your board, choose to print one of the following:

    • The entire board as a single page: Tap Board.
    • One scene per page: Tap Scenes.

How to share or delete memories in Photos on iPad

You can share memory movies and the photos and videos that appear in them with friends and family. You can delete memories, too, and identify content in memories that you’d like to feature less.

A memory can go directly to friends and family with AirDrop, Messages, or Mail. Or you can play it with AirPlay on a nearby device so everyone can watch it together.

Here’s how to share or delete memories in Photos on iPad.

Share a memory movie

Share a memory directly with friends and family, or use AirPlay to play it so you can watch together.

  1. Start the Photos app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Collections.
  3. Swipe left under Memories to scroll through a selection of your memories, or tap Memories to view them all.
  4. Tap the Play button in the bottom-right corner of a memory to play it.
  5. As the memory plays, tap the screen, tap the More button at the top of the screen. Do any of the following:
    • Share a memory using AirDrop, Messages, or Mail: Tap Share, then choose a sharing option.
    • Play on a nearby device using AirPlay: Tap AirPlay and choose an available device.

Share photos and videos from a memory

  1. Start the Photos app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Collections.
  3. Swipe left under Memories to scroll through a selection of your memories, or tap Memories to view them all.
  4. Tap a memory, then tap Select.
  5. Tap the items you want to share, or tap Select All and then tap the Share button.

Feature people, places, or days in a memory less often

If there’s a person, a place, or a specific day in a memory that you’d like to see less often in your memories and featured photos, you can identify it in the Photos app.

  1. Start the Photos app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Collections.
  3. Swipe left under Memories to scroll through a selection of your memories, or tap Memories to view them all.
  4. Touch and hold a memory, then tap Feature Less.
  5. Depending on the memory, select one of the following:
    • Feature This Day Less
    • Feature This Place Less
    • Feature a Person Less

To reset, open the Photos app, tap Collections, tap your account in the top-right corner, then tap Reset Suggested Memories.

Delete a memory

  1. Start the Photos app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Collections.
  3. Swipe left under Memories to scroll through a selection of your memories, or tap Memories to view them all.
  4. Touch and hold a memory, then tap Delete Memory.

How to change your download settings for Podcasts on iPad

Podcasts you follow are automatically downloaded to your Apple device, and episodes you’ve played are automatically deleted. You can change these download settings and adjust other download options.

If you haven’t listened to a show you follow in a while, though, new episodes stop downloading automatically. You can resume automatic downloads at any time, and you can adjust these settings for a particular podcast you follow.

Here’s how to change your download settings for Podcasts on iPad.

Turn automatic downloads on or off

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Apps and tap Podcasts.
  3. Tap Automatically Download and choose an option.

Quick tip: To automatically download a particular podcast, open the Podcasts app, then tap Shows in the sidebar. Touch and hold the show, then tap Settings. Tap Automatically Download to limit automatic downloads to a certain number of episodes or a timeframe. Tap Download Video to choose whether to download video., then tap Automatically Download to choose a download option.

Remove downloaded podcasts after you watch or listen to them

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Apps and tap Podcasts.
  3. Turn on Remove Played Downloads.

    To adjust this setting for a particular podcast you follow, tap Shows, then touch and hold the show’s artwork. Tap Settings, then turn on Remove Played Downloads.

Resume automatic downloads

If you haven’t watched or listened to a show you follow lately, its new episodes stop downloading automatically, but you can resume automatic downloads at any time.

  1. Open the Podcasts app on your iPad.
  2. In the sidebar, tap Shows.
  3. Tap a show.
  4. Tap the Resume Automatic Downloads button. Then tap Turn On Automatic Downloads.

Turn off automatic syncing across Apple devices

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  2. Tap Apps and tap Podcasts.
  3. Turn off Sync Library.

How to export or print notes on iPad

In the Notes app, you can open a note in the Pages app and continue working. You can also export the note as a PDF or print the note.

A locked note has to be unlocked first before you open it in Pages. You can export a note as a Markdown file, too, and a PDF uses the note’s current view settings for its attachments.

Here’s how to export or print notes on iPad.

Open a note in Pages

  1. Make sure your iPad has the latest version of Pages.
  2. Open the Notes app on your iPad.
  3. Open the note you want to export.
  4. Tap the Share button and then tap Open in Pages.

Note: You must unlock a locked note before you export its contents to Pages. Once in Pages, you can’t edit drawings, and content such as scanned documents and PDFs appears as thumbnail images. Tags, mentions, checklists, and links to notes also aren’t active items there. If you export a shared note, the resulting Pages document isn’t shared.

Export a note as a PDF

PDFs you create from a note use its current view settings for attachments. If the note includes a multipage PDF or scanned document, only the first page of the original makes it into the exported PDF.

  1. Open the Notes app on your iPad.
  2. Open the note you want to export.
  3. Tap the Share button, then tap Markup.

    If you don’t see the Markup option, first tap the View More button.

  4. Mark up the pages in the exported PDF as needed and tap the Done button to save the PDF.

Export a note as a Markdown file

You can export your notes as Markdown files to integrate your notes into writing, content, and other workflows that support Markdown.

  1. Open the Notes app on your iPad.
  2. Open the note you want to export.
  3. Tap the Share button and then tap Export as Markdown.

    If you don’t see the Markdown option, first tap the View More button.

  4. Choose how to send or save your note.

Print a note

  1. Open the Notes app on your iPad.
  2. Open the note you want to print.
  3. Tap the Share button, then tap Print.

    If you don’t see the Print option, first tap the View More button.

  4. Choose the printer and other options, then tap Print.

How to export contacts on iPad

You can export some or all of your contacts to another device or app. In the Contacts app, you just export a list, select the fields you want to include, and then send or save the exported contact cards, such as with Messages or Mail.

  2. Tap the Lists button at the top left.
  3. Touch and hold an existing list (or create a new list by tapping Add List).
  4. Tap Export and select the fields you want to include. Tap Done.

How to show song credits and lyrics on iPad

When you subscribe to Apple Music, you can show song credits and view and share lyrics.

Song credits show the performing artists, composition and lyrics, production and engineering roles, and even the available audio quality. Time-synced lyrics appear for many songs, and you can jump to a certain verse or get help pronouncing or translating the lyrics. And if you’re offline, you can still view lyrics for songs downloaded to your device.

Here’s how to show song credits and lyrics on iPad.

Show song credits

Performing artists, production and engineering roles, composition and lyrics, and available audio quality all appear in song credits.

  1. Open the Music app on your iPad.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • While a song is playing, tap the MiniPlayer to open the Now Playing screen, tap the More button, then tap View Credits.
    • Tap the More button next to a song in a list, then tap View Credits.

Show and hide time-synced lyrics

In Apple Music, many songs come with time-synced lyrics.

  1. Open the Music app on your iPad.
  2. While a song is playing, tap the MiniPlayer to open the Now Playing screen. Tap the Lyrics button.

    Note: If you’re offline, you can view lyrics as long as the songs are downloaded to your device.

  3. Do any of the following:

    • Jump to a certain verse: Tap a specific lyric—the first line of the chorus, for example—to go to that part of the song.
    • Get help pronouncing or translating the lyrics: Tap the Translation and Pronunciation button and choose Show Pronunciation or Show Translation.

      The Translation and Pronunciation button only appears when a translation or pronunciation is available that matches your iPad device’s Preferred Languages list. (You can view this list and add languages directly to it in Settings > General > Language & Region.) Not available in all languages.

      Tip: You can have either the lyrics or the pronunciation appear in larger text. Go to Settings > Apps > Music > Larger Text.

    • See all of a song’s lyrics: Tap the More button, tap View Credits, and then tap View Lyrics.
  4. To hide the lyrics, tap the Lyrics button.

Share lyrics

You can share up to 150 characters of a song’s lyrics, as long as time-synced lyrics are available.

  1. Open the Music app on your iPad.
  2. While a song is playing, tap the MiniPlayer to open the Now Playing screen.
  3. Tap the More button, then tap Share Lyrics.

    You can also touch and hold a lyrics line to open the sharing screen.

  4. Tap the first and last lyrics you want to share. Then choose a sharing option.

Report a concern

To report a concern about time-synced lyrics, tap the More button, then tap Report a Concern.
